Mini Book Review – More Than This

Recently I have been reading More Than This; and it was really good! Written by Patrick Ness, and published by Walker Books; More Than This is a Young Adult Science Fiction novel, about a boy who after drowning during a swim, wakes up in a world where he is the only apparent human left in the whole wide world. The book is written over several large parts, containing several flash in a pan like chapters which helps to break the story down. To begin with we are introduced to this empty world, where only one person lives in it, and every now and then the lead character Seth has a dream, reminding him of his life, a rather sad life where his parents ignore him after he ‘did something’ bad? This carries on for a time, but then after part one concludes, things switch up a gear, as life in an empty world becomes a fight for survival due to exterior, and until now, unforeseen circumstances, which in turn allow for more dreams, continuing the sad backstory. It’s a really interesting world, well thought out, and very well described, really placing you within the action as the intensity becomes even more tense; as the story goes from a mystery, to a full on science fiction epic!
