Yesterday I watched Maze Runner: The Death Cure; and it was really good! Directed by Wes Ball, and starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and based on The Death Cure by James Dashner; Maze Runner: The Death Cure is a dystopian science fiction film, and the final film in The Maze Runner movie trilogy. Set several months after The Scorch Trials, the last of the free ‘Gladers‘, set out on a rescue mission to save Minho (Ki Hong Lee), but to do so, they must first enter the Last City on Earth. Do you know what’s kind of nice to see in these kind of dystopian films? A city. So many of these stories, books, TV shows, films; feature locations that are either desert, wasteland, forests, or crumbling old buildings; but no real sign of civilization. Sure they may have a settlement, or a village, but nothing like a big city, with huge buildings, and a modern flavour. So seeing the city in this film, felt like a real breath of fresh air, and not just more of the same old wasteland. It was beautiful…moving on! This film does not waste any of it’s development over the last two films. Sure, Scorch Trials didn’t help much, but all this character development, and setup, allows for less a tranquill conclusion, but more an explosion, with some of the same old adrenaline fuelled action to boot. Thankfully, it’s more paced out this time. It allows for a story to fill in those gaps, and only inserts points of action, when they are needed. But it’s not all action, there’s a lot of heart-wrenching drama too, and in that creates two decently powerful, and tear jerking moments; that will leave you flooding the carpet with tears. Perhaps some tears of joy at the pretty satisfying conclusion, but not before tears of sadness, at a truly sorrowful sight!
Although what isn’t very clear, is whatever happened to Chuck‘s statue?
