Yesterday I watched The Beekeeper; and it was absolutely brilliant! Directed by David Ayer, and starring Jason Statham, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeremy Irons; The Beekeeper is an action thriller, about a retired operative to a top secret agency, who seeks vengeance for a friend, after they fall victim to a phishing scam. Watching the opening credits, I was secretly hoping that there may be some reference to Candyman in the film, but not this time, sorry. If I had a penny for the number of times I have received annoying phone calls from people pretending to be from Microsoft, or any other related major IT company wanting to access my stuff: well then I might have quite a large number of pennies. So, in many ways, it was nice to see a film take some kind of stand against these horrible people! Anyway, back to the film. The Beekeeper was a tremoundoulsy enjoyable action film, and features something for everyone who considers themselves a fan of either, or both; The Raid, and John Wick. The vengeance dealt towards the scammers is so satisfying to watch, and the intense explosive destruction scenes, are a nice break between each intensly choreographed fight sequence. The story is pretty simple, and really does drive the film along, by adding a slice of intrigue between the action scenes, and it all leads to an epic twist, followed by an equally epic grand finale. I went in barely knowing anything about this weirdly titled action thriller (apart from the usual things you can expect from a film starring Jason Statham), to someone who is right now, utterly desperate for a sequel! Please make a sequel…?!
