Mini Film Review – Transformers One

I have just watched Transformers One; and it was really, really good! Directed by Josh Cooley, and starring Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson; Transformers One is an animated action comedy film, featuring the Transformers, and this time around, it’s an origins story, that tells the story of how Optimus Prime and Megatron went from being close friends, to bitter rivals! First off, lets get the obvious bits out of the way. Firstly, the animation and design is epically spectacular. It’s such a beautifully coloured world, with nice clear effects, making it easy to get truly immersed in the movie experience. Secondly, the villain is a bit obvious. You know they are going to be the villain, it’s not a big shock. Moving on, to yet more good points. The voice cast are terrificly selected, the humour is more often than frequent, and above all, is actually funny. It’s not some ridiculous joke that makes you groan or blurt out a single ha, NO! It’s genuinley funny, that makes you want to actually laugh. It’s a really well put together movie, with a simple, if occasionally obvious plot, but easy enough to allow the effects driven world to complement it, rather than totally overpower it. You will be amazed if you turn your attention from it, you may even forget you were in the cinema (I nearly did). Plus there are plenty of references to make classic Transformers fans smile too (although I was a little shocked that Megatron didn’t say: “DO AS I COMMAND!“).
