Mini Film Review – The Killer

Yesterday I watched The Killer; and it was really good! Directed by David Fincher, and starring Michael Fassbender, Charles Parnell, and Tilda Swinton, and based on the French graphic novel series of the same name by Alexis Nolent, and Luc Jacamon; The Killer is an action thriller, about a methodical assassin, who after botching a hit, goes on an international vendetta, to take out those who attacked his girlfriend! The Killer moves at a surprisingly sedate pace, but this is more to allow the audience to attach themselves better to the methodology of Michael Fassbender’s character. So as it starts out, with it’s slow pace, you consider looking at the clock, wondering how long things will take to heat up. But this isn’t an adrenaline fueled action film, it’s a thriller, with a little action. It’s really cool, and somewhat relaxing, to see the hitman’s approach to executing his targets. How he prepares his mind and heart-rate, and how cautiously he approaches each job, whilst also going above and beyond to discard evidence, and mask his identity. But the film still allows time for little hints of drama, big fast paced moments of hard hitting action, as well as some juicy surprises too. It’s a really cool, and often tranquil experience, and one that you don’t want to miss, as it could be something really small, that messes up your total understanding of this movie (plus you’re in for an additional treat, if you like the music of The Smiths)!
