Mini Film Review – The Accountant

Yesterday I watched The Accountant; and it was very enjoyable! Directed by Gavin O’Connor, and starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, Jon Bernthal, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson; The Accountant is an action thriller about an autistic accountant, with a rather lethal set of skills! This wasn’t necessarily the first time I have seen this film, but it is the first time I have seen it all the way through. The film carries a nice balance between events from the past, to moments in the present day, to help build-up Affleck’s character, as both a mathematical genius, as well as a highly trained killer. The film though does like to mumble it’s way through some of it’s more complex narrative. Characters seem to have a desire to just confess important details under breath. From how the accounts have been set up at the robotics company, to how J.K. Simmons first got onto the trail of the accountant and whether or not he’s on his side or not, to some important details on the origin of the accountant himself. It’s these details that should help the audience fully understand what’s been going on, and how it’s all led to the here and now. But unfortunately, due to the way they are delivered, you will find it hard to understand totally and completely, what’s been going on. But whilst these key details are rather skimmed over, the rest of the film holds up rather well. From the quiet, but intense action scenes, to the fleshing out of side characters. So all-in-all; very enjoyable!
