Along time ago,
On an island far away,
A very bad thing happened,
That most choose to ignore.
A girl went missing,
She wrote a letter,
To a man of the law,
And believer of the common religion!
He found regular folk,
Who enjoyed tradition,
Of an uncouth kind,
Which he found sickening.
They placed toads in their mouths,
To heal sore throats,
And gathered in fields,
To openly make love!
It distracted him,
But only just,
But they tried so hard,
To keep him there.
He learned of the harvest,
An annual event,
And a celebration too,
But last year’s wasn’t!
He met the local lord,
A great leader of so few,
Who lead them through,
Their ancient love.
The man of the law,
Saw the girl’s grave,
And inside the coffin,
Was just a dead rabbit!
He had seen enough,
He had been tested too much,
But he couldn’t leave,
As they were keeping him there.
The next day,
It was the first of May,
Time to celebrate,
And time to infiltrate!
The people wore masks,
He played Punch,
They danced,
He watched.
A game of chance,
With a star of blades,
They called chop,
But even he had to take a turn!
And then on the horizon,
A sight he didn’t expect,
It was the girl,
And she was alive.
A quick break for freedom,
Didn’t last long,
It was all a trap,
And she had been in on it!
He had come of his own free will,
He carried the power of a king,
He was a virgin,
And he was a fool.
He met all the criteria,
To them he was perfect,
He was no longer free,
And soon to be no more!
They took him to their idol,
A giant made of wood,
Soon to be glowing,
By the simplest flame.
And there he died,
Inside a raging inferno,
Whilst the people celebrated,
In joyous song!
