Mini Film Review – Die Hard

Yesterday I watched Die Hard; and it was pretty good! Directed by John McTiernan, and starring Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, Bonnie Bedelia, and Reginald VelJohnson, and based on the book Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp; Die Hard is an action movie, about a New York cop, who flies to Los Angeles to meet up with his estranged wife, only to get caught up in a robbery in her offices! This is the first time I have ever seen this film. No Joke! I have seen occasional clips, but never had a chance to watch it all the way through. To be honest, most of what I know about the film, is largely thanks to repeated references in episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Who knew it was possible to make a large delivery truck look sinister? During it’s drive towards Nakatomi Plaza, the music is mysterious and sinister, where as if that music wasn’t there, you’d just think it was a truck. What I quite liked about the film was that it wasn’t just all action. There was some drama between John McClane and Holly Gennaro-McClane, as well as McClane and Al Powell during the raid. But there was no real all-guns-blazing action moments, as it represents McClane as a more fragile character, rather than a bullet proof one. So there’s some more investigative moments, as he tries to deal with well prepared villains, which in turn leads to some of the film’s more intense moments, as well as points where it looks like McClane may very well not survive the show. It was a really cool experience, with high adrenaline levels of action, plus some other bits that other action films don’t provide, provided by some great acting from the film’s lead stars!
