Mini Film Review – Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre

Yesterday I watched Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre; and it was really good! Directed by Guy Ritchie, and starring Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, and Cary Elwes; Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is a spy action comedy about a group of spies trying to retrieve a stolen device before it falls into the hands of the highest bidder! I didn’t really know what to expect with this film going into it, but very quickly I began to like it, as it was a very classic spy/heist like movie, with some funny moments early on, and some great character introduction to. The lead cast are all really interesting to see perform, as they all appear to be clashing personalities, which are somehow able to gel together seemlessly, and appear near unstoppable. The casual attitude they have to their duties is quite funny too, as they just seem to get on with it, like they do it 9 to 5, rather than panic like a rabbit caught in a car’s headlights. It’s not a laugh out loud kind of comedy, but it’s one that will make you smile, particularly the incredibly, and hilariously accurate impression of Michael Caine provided by Hugh Grant. The action scenes are well done too, and it features some very explosively unpredictable scenes later on in the film. I did though worry that the concluding chase scenes were starting to look like those in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which was terrible, but here, it simply works, creating a much better film. Altogether, it’s a very cool, funny, and well orchestrated classic-ish spy/heist movie, with some good old, and clever new action scenes too, helmed together by a terrific cast. I really hope a sequel gets made…I want more…”PLEASE?!”
