I have just seen Oppenheimer, and it was really good! Directed by Christopher Nolan, and starring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Matt Damon; Oppenheimer is an epic biographical thriller based on the book American Prometheus, by Kai Bird, and Martin J. Sherwin, which chronicles the life of the Manhattan Project director: J. Robert Oppenheimer. Much like many other Christopher Nolan films, the plot is a kind of puzzle, as it takes several different viewpoints, and spreads them out sporadically, so the clear picture isn’t all that clear, until the very ending of course. The film though does offer an easy path to follow, as it largely goes in a direction that shows Oppenheimer’s career; from a student, to the Manhattan Project, and to the detonation of the bomb. But, whilst you may expect it to end there, it doesn’t, as it follows Oppenheimer living with the consequences, and his desire to try and reduce the impact of his creation in the world. OK, the final chapter can be rather hard to follow in the core details, but it still finds a way to create an intense situation, albeit a pretty sedate one. On the whole, it was a really deep and compelling film, that holds your attention throughout, from it’s humble beginnings, to a nuclear blast, and beyond!
And best of all, unlike Tenet; I could actually hear and understand what was going on!
