The Look

For Christmas last year, I received a CD copy of Blood & Glitter, an album from the German rock band; Lord of the Lost. And I found something rather surprising on it!

For those of you not in the know: Founded in 2007, Lord of the Lost is a German rock band, with a style that covers a wide variety of genre’s, including Heavy Metal, Glam Rock, Industrial Music, and Classical Music, to name but a few, with influences including both Rammstein, and Lady Gaga, to also name but a few. Last year (2023) they represented Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest with the title song from the above album. 2023 was also the first year I saw them live, as they were the supporting act for Iron Maiden during their The Future Past World Tour. It was when I saw them in Manchester, that I fell in love for the song The Curtain Falls.

Anyway, whilst driving out of a car park, I had the album playing in the car’s CD player, and heard something rather surprising. It’s a song I had heard before in several locations, but not from Lord of the Lost. The song being played was ‘The Look‘, originally performed by Swedish pop duo; Roxette.

Now I am pretty sure I don’t need to introduce, or explain this song. It’s a very well known song worldwide, used in TV shows and adverts many many times. It was instantly recognisable to me thanks to those famous lyrics:

“She’s got the look,
She goes (na na na na na na),
She’s got the look, she’s got the look,
She goes (na na na na na na),
She’s got the look, she’s got the look,
She goes (na na na na na na)”

So, a very famous song, but still a major surprise to hear on an album from a German Heavy Metal album. I wasn’t shocked, but I was curious. So did some digging, and found it is an on purpose cover version performed by Lord of the Lost, featuring Jasmin Wagner (also known as Blümchen).

Anyway, just thought I would do a quick post on this surprising discovery!
