Yesterday I watched The Fugitive; and it was pretty solid! Directed by Andrew Davis, and starring Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, and Sela Ward; The Fugitive is an action thriller film based on the 1960’s TV series of the same name. After being wrongly convicted of killing his wife, vascular surgeon Dr. Richard Kimble escapes from custody and goes on the run, whilst a dedicated no-nonsense U.S. Marshal sets off in hot pursuit of Kimble. Very early on, you can sort of play a game of Guess Who?, as the film is something of a who’s who of actors, who had previously starred in another Andrew Davis film: Under Siege. But, once the film is under way and we meet the core cast, we see this rather epic chase as one character who is not a detective, tries to find the real killer of his wife, whilst a real detective goes after the non-detective. It’s a near adrenaline packed film which allows time to do something different in comparison to other action thrillers, by allowing twists and turns, mixed in with near misses. OK, that ending is a bit abrupt, and you sort of want it to be more cliched, allowing time to see justice prevail and Kimble starting a new life, rather than this note of will he or won’t he live past this. In addition, whilst Jones’s no-nonsense approach is pretty cool, his fast mumbling, can prevent you hearing some important sounding details. But, despite those issues; The Fugitive is a pretty solid action thriller!
