Recently I have been watching The Midwich Cuckoos; and I Absolutely Loved it! Created for television by David Farr, and starring Keeley Hawes, Max Beesley, and Aisling Loftus, and based on the book of the same name by John Wyndham; The Midwich Cuckoos is a Science Fiction TV series, about a small village in England, which after a strange night where everyone in the village blacked out, all the women are suddenly pregnant, but the children born aren’t exactly normal! This was my first proper experience with the Midwich Cuckoos, I have heard of it in passing, and seen the ocassional pardoy too, but this was my first hands on experience with the story. I was quite surprised to discover though that it’s a science fiction story, where as part of me assumed given it’s setting and ideas, that it would be more along the lines of Supernatural Horror. But, no matter what it really is, I could not get enough of it! The opening episode in itself is a thing of sheer beauty, as it creates a moment, which is like viewing the end of the world, like something seriously, apocalyptically bad was about to happen, only to be replaced by something else entirely. The series is nicely paced out too, as we go from the first incredible episode, to the next and beyond. Instead of rushing the story, it tells it in an intense step by step process, as things get more and more haunting, and frequently spine chilling too. The final episode is in itself very intense, really pushing me to lean at the edge of my seat, drawing me more and more into this amazing story. The adult cast are fantastic, whilst the cast of children are just as terrifying as you could possibly imagine. The drama is both exceptional, and fierce; not necesarilly gripping, more throttling you! Grabbing you through the screen and drawing you in, but most importantly, ends on a conclusion, which doesn’t setup anything; as something this extreme, needs to end, and ends in an eruptive fashion. It is Tremendous, Powerful, Intriguing, Brutal, and Inspiring. Personally…I think it’s one the Best TV Shows I have ever seen!
