Infinite Dreams

Infinite Dreams is a song by Heavy Metal Legends; Iron Maiden! The song was originally featured in the 1988 album Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, before then being released as a live single in 1989. The song was written by Steve Harris.

The Wikipedia page for the song states that the synopsis is:

“about how the character of the song sees disturbing visions about afterlife and other mystic things in his dreams, but is scared about if he will ever be able to wake up again.”

The song’s composure is an interesting one, as it’s one that features a slow opening section, that takes it’s time to change it’s pace. At this stage, the lyrics are told so peacefully, and simply, making them easy-ish to follow. It then goes into a stress inducing build-up, which feels like it’s a prolonged problem, that will never be resolved. And then comes the scream.

From this moment on, the songs pace changes in the blink of an eye. The tune is basically the same, but it’s now much faster, and aggressive, but allows for the guitars to shout out, in a positive sounding way, only for the tune to return to a more serious, intense note. This point could be considered treacherous however, as it’s a song about disturbing visions, but the tune sounds upbeat, and energeticallly positive.

But it eventually returns to a serious note, leading to an intense guitar solo, before then returning to the pace from the start of the song, and then ending on a dark heavy note.

It’s an interesting song, and at first hearing, you could be a little turned off by it, especially if you are anticipating it to be a more classic varaint of an Iron Maiden song. But it weirdly grows on you, and the more you hear it, the more you actually want to hear it!
