Choosing Guns Like John Wick

Whenever I am playing a First-Person-Shooter video game now, I can’t help but choose my weapons, like John Wick! There are a couple of scenes in the second and third John Wick films, where he’s choosing weapons, but is being methodical in his approach. The best example of this is in John Wick: Chapter 2 where he goes Gun Shopping:

The moment where he tests the AR-15, or the Benelli M4, by looking down sights, seeing how it feels in his hands, or clicking/checking bits and bobs. Well ever since I saw that film in late 2021, I can’t help but take a simillar approach to choosing which guns to use in FPS games.

I first noticed this when playing Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Everytime I bought/received/got a new gun; I would choose it, then play around with it for a bit. I would look down the sights to see how easy it would be to aim it. I would fire off a few rounds to see how fast it fired. I would compare it’s ammo size to other guns. I would see how quickly it reloaded. I would check everything basically, just to see if it was a good enough gun to just try out on a few enemies. And whilst it is common place for games like these to provide numbers/stats on certain things, you really do need to see how the gun feels outside the spreadsheets.

Even when I am playing Destiny 2, I would do simillar things, before I committed to using a new gun. For the most part I am still largely using the same main weapons I did over a year ago, as I know what I like and don’t, and have largely not found anything yet that’s as good, or superrior.

It’s a weird mood to find yourself in, when playing FPS games; but it does help you to find what works for you, even if you do end up with one or two scenes from John Wick going around and around your head, when trying out a new shotgun. The other scene being the ammo selection scene from John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
