It’s that time once again, when we look back at the year that has gone, and look into the year that is to come, although strangely, I have not been doing that as much as I used to! Maybe it’s because the year that has nearly gone had plenty of movies to look forward to, with an ample number of positives, and no range of negatives, to make me want to bring the year to an end?
It could be that, or maybe I just haven’t thought about it. It’s probably that one, as I when I was selecting what films there were to come that I like the look of, was surprised to see some films in there, films that I perhaps knew about, but thought could be years away, as well as others that were supposed to come out this year, but which were pushed back.
Although there was one that I was hopeful that may be released for next year. But it’s no secret that the development of this project is now entirely up for question. That film of course being Blade. But hey, maybe with Blade out of the way, another film might make it into the Top 5. There are those that are worthy of note that won’t get a spot in my Top 5, but which I would still like to see, with those films being:
The Electric State, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, Superman: Legacy, Mortal Kombat 2, and The Running Man.
And so, without further ado, here are the Top 5 Films I Am Most Looking Forward To In 2025; Enjoy!
5. Havoc – It’s both sad, and frequently annoying, how Gareth Evans has very few titles to his name in terms of movies directed. It’s especially annoying as he is the director of two of the greatest (if not the two greatest) action movies ever made, in The Raid, and The Raid 2. It feels like Hollywood is delibrately holding him back. Not much is known about Havoc right now, other than it sounds like both an action film, with a bit of political, and criminal underworld intrigue. But for me personally, it’s a film by Gareth Evans, which is enough to be excited about!
4. Nobody 2 – I was seriously hoping the there would be a sequel to Nobody, and for a while it just felt like odd rumours, but it’s happening! Nobody 2 is of course the sequel to one of the best films of 2021, and from the plot line on IMDb, it suggests it will be a continuation of the previous Nobody, whilst expanding the history of the characters involved. I just hope the violence is as funny as the previous entry’s!
3. Jurassic World: Rebirth – A classic PC game (it was Dungeon Keeper 2) once said: “Big Monsters, Big Prizes, I Love It!“. That could quite easily sum up the base level of excitement I have for each new Jurassic Park film that comes out. According to some plot threads online, this film will take place five years after the events of Dominion, and will involve Scarlett Johansson, and Mahershala Ali, trying to gain genetic material from some of the surviving dinosaurs. I am at this stage decently excited for a new one, just as long as it doesn’t try to tell three films worth of plot, like Dominion did!
2. Mickey 17 – From Bong Joon Ho, the director of one of the absolute best movies in recent memory: Parasite, comes this interesting science fiction movie, which also looks rather funny. From the trailer, it looks a bit like a more comedic take on the base elements of the Tom Cruise film Edge of Tomorrow. The trailer does feature some squeamish ingesting creatures writihing around, which is a bit off putting for me personally, but it’s the latest film from Bong Joon Ho; and everything I have seen from him, is the purest of pure gold!
1. Now You See Me 3 – I saw the first Now You See Me a few years ago, and a short time later, the sequel too. Also, the sequel is frequently repeated on TV, and both films, are a lot of fun. It’s truly surprising that it has taken Lionsgate (sorry Starz, the website needs changing though) nearly a decade to get another one produced, especially as both films were decently successful at the Box Office. Could this 10 year gap cause issues with the return on number 3, who knows, but to me, I am excited to see it (as long as the real star of the series so far – Lula (Lizzy Caplan) – returns)!
