Mini Live Review – Simon Evans: Have We Met?

Last Night I went to see Simon EvansHave We Met? tour at the Grand Theatre in Lancaster; and it was very, very funny! Starring Simon Evans; Have We Met? is the latest tour from the co-writer of Not Going Out (and one-time contestant on The Krypton Factor)! I first heard of Simon Evans from the series Stand Up For The Week, and instantly wanted to see and hear more from him. Have We Met is a very personal like show, featuring some old jokes, but to which Simon states that this is not a farewell tour. He talks quite a bit early on about how he considered finding a new career during Lockdown, as he didn’t know if there would be a future for stand up comedy, whilst also highlighting, and telling funny jokes about recent stories in the press, like Phillip Schofield, and the many trip wires of cancel culture. But as the show moves along, he begins to talk about things that you wouldn’t necessarilly expect to be funny, but to which he creates huge laugh out loud moments, from talking about Ernest Shackleton, to Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. But then it all comes to a close with an even more personal story regarding the sudden loss of a friend. It was a very funny evening, with lots of laughter generated, whilst also featuring a lot of heart!

  1. 100% correct. Evans is at the top of his game. I saw this show in Nov 24, and he continues to go from strength to strength.

And if you ever get a chance to see his Work of the Devil show, it preceded “Have We Met”, and that is another superbly written/engineered/polished show with a remarkable tale relating to himself, and one which you will remember for years.

In fact, HWM hit such a chord with me, I have booked Simon for a night in our village hall, which is another indication that SE is not just chasing money, but genuinely wishes to perform his work to all audiences, small and large.
