I have just seen Sophie Duker‘s But Daddy I Love Her tour at The Dukes in Lancaster; and it was enjoyable! Starring Sophie Duker (with herself as the supporting act); But Daddy I Love Her is the latest tour from the series 13 Taskmaster champion. This was the first real opportunity I got to see Sophie Duker doing stand-up, as most of the time, I have seen her on panel shows such as Frankie Boyle’s New World Order, as well as the aforementioned series of Taskmaster. In hindsight, it may have been a good idea to find at least something to better prepare myself for her style of comedy. The show was alive with energy and occassional positivity, with some audience involvement, and even a creative rendition of The Candyman song from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. But, I did find some of the references difficult to understand, possibly due to my more enclosed lifestyle. So it meant that unless you really understand the definitions of new phrases and slang, you might struggle to understand a single joke. There were though gladly other things I was able to grab and laugh to; and even when I couldn’t get a joke, Sophie Duker is still a good story-teller, so I could at least enjoy listening to her stories!
