Mini Film Review – Superman

I have just been out to see Superman; and it was rather Epic! Directed by James Gunn, and starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, and based on the DC Comics character of the same name; Superman is a superhero movie, where the titular hero is being menaced by his arch enemy Lex Luthor, who has found a way to make the entire world hate Superman! First off, it’s great to see that is not just another origin story, instead it just gets to the point of Superman being around, and gets the story going from there. The story is more like a conspiracy/investigative thriller, as Lex Luthor has setup the perfect trap for Superman, and it leads the other characters on a mission to clear his name, and stop Luthor’s diabolical plans. The film though does get bogged down a few times. The pocket universe story for instance takes up a lot of time, and doesn’t really move the story along. A lot of the fight scenes are rather repetitive, and frequently get borring very quickly, and these fight scenes can take some of the attention off much ‘bigger’ problems. But whilst it does have it’s issues, it does have a lot of positives. Many of the other action scenes are very fun and gratifying to watch, and some of the more comedic scenes are genuinley laugh out loud hysterical. Plus the film has an amazing cast. From Nicholas Hoult’s terrific performance as Lex Luthor; to the many other major stars (which include, but are not limited to: Edi Gathegi, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced) who pad out the rest of the film in seriously interesting ways. I am not a big fan of Superman; but I really do like this film!
