This weekend I saw The Naked Gun; and it was absolutely hillarious! Directed by Akiva Schaffer, and starring Liam Neeson, Pamela Anderson, and Danny Huston; The Naked Gun is an action comedy film acting as a legacy sequel to Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, which sees Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr. – the son of Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) – who after dispatching a group of bank robbers, investigates a technology innovator, who has plans to end the world as we know it! Whenever I see a comedy movie, either at the cinema, or at home, and something funny happens, I find that instead of laughing out loud, I more or less smile, or say ‘ha ha’ or have a little chuckle. In recent years, for the most part, jokes in films don’t cause many laugh out loud moments…until I watched this film. I was laughing out loud, a lot. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I saw a film that was this funny. When the jokes, or moments of hillarity start, they are very difficult to turn off. One after another they pile in, whilst allowing plenty of time for the audience to laugh, and take a breath. The comedy in this film is practically a tribute to the original trilogy, with moments for witty one liners, bizzare eye brow raising moments, to good old slapstick. Yes, it is hard to ignore the fact, that the villains dastardly plot to take over the world, is exactly the same as the one in Kingsman: The Secret Service; but thankfully the number of laughs in this film do help to put it to one side until it occurs. Overall though, it’s a seriously funny film, and one of the funniest I have seen in a very long time. Please let there be a sequel?!
Watch out for the Snowman!
