The first time I heard of/saw anything of Lord of the Lost, was at Eurovision 2023. Being a Heavy Metal fan, it should have been a slam dunk choice for me, but I didn’t really like their entry all that much. Less than two months later however, I fell in love with them!
How did this turnaround happen? Well, as it turned out, Lord of the Lost was supporting Iron Maiden on the UK leg of The Future Past World Tour. I had tickets to see the show in Manchester, and so I got another chance to give Lord of the Lost a go; and they started off their set, with the perfect song to gain my approval.
The Curtain Falls is a very short metal song, perhaps only just a bit longer than the Judas Priest classic; Breaking The Law. Due to it’s shortness, it doesn’t waste time to get the show going.
There’s no gentle build-up, just a simple beat on the keyboards and drums, followed by it’s main metal riff. Then when the song gets moving, the riff keeps going, followed by the lyrics, which at times can sound aggressive and loud, but at other times almost sweet and supportive.
There is a short respite in the middle to catch a breath, bdefore then regaining full speed, to it’s big climax. From the moment I first heard this song I was hooked, and have remained hooked enough to buy several more albums!
