Mini Live Review – SAXON: Hell, Fire And Steel Tour

Last night I went to see Saxon: Hell, Fire And Steel tour, at the O2 Apollo in Manchester; and it was Fantastic! Featuring Saxon, with supporting acts Untamed Silence, and Dirkschneider; Hell, Fire And Steel is the latest tour from Heavy Metal Legends Saxon, which includes both new and old time classic songs too! I have been a fan of Saxon for over a decade, but this was the first time I got to see them live. The supporting acts were largely ok; but I did get worried, when it was announced as part of the warm-up that Dirkschneider would play the Balls to the Wall album in it’s entirety (which made me worry whether or not I was at the correct concert); but they did finish with Fast as a Shark, so I’m not complaining too much!

Saxon meanwhile were terrific. They started the show as they meant to go on, with loud music, great musicianship, and excellent vocals. It was a collection of classic songs, largely from the Wheels of Steel album, but with a few others thrown in for good measure. The feedback from the show did make it difficult to hear a large portion of the lyrics, but I could still hear the tune pretty decently. Plus, the show finised with my number 1 favourite Saxon song: Princess of the Night!
