Top 5 Creatures In Dungeon Keeper 2

I absolutely adored Dungeon Keeper 2, it was one of my favourite PC games growing up, and one that still provides many fond memories! As the name suggests, Dungeon Keeper 2 is the 1999 sequel, to Dungeon Keeper, which was released in 1997. Both games were developed by the now sadly defunct studio; Bullfrog Productions, which was originally founded by Peter Molyneux, and Les Edgar; and was responsible for other well known games like Populous, and Theme Hospital.

Much like it’s predecessor, Dungeon Keeper was a strategy game, where the player was tasked with building an underground dungeon, suitable for creatures to live in, with the hope of taking down those pesky goody goody heroes on the surface. Players therefore needed to provide creatures with somewhere to sleep, eat, train, and other activities. As the game progressed, and more rooms were unlocked, more types of creatures became available, to populate the players dungeon.

There were some noticeable differences between the two games, even if many of the gameplay practices were the same. One of the more noticeable changes though, was in how some creatures from the first game, did not get to appear in the second one. Some creatures made the jump no problem, whereas others were abandoned, in favour of brand new ones. Now it has been a while since I last played either game, but as I have plenty of knowledge and experience wth the second one, I thought I would do a fun list, highlighting my favourite creatures from DK2.

Now the following list will not feature heroes from the game, as I want to focus more on the player accessible creatures (plus it will allow room in the future for a hero based post). But as is always the case, this is a Top 5, and as there are many more creatures than 5, I thought I would highlight those who sadly don’t make the top, but which I still like:

Bile Demon, Dark Angel, Dark Elf, Goblin, Vampire, Warlock, and Horny.

And so, without further ado, here are My Top 5 Favourite Creatures from Dungeon Keeper 2; Enjoy!

5. Mistress – Quite possibly the weirdest creature in the entire series. The Mistress is attracted to the dungeon, once a Torture Chamber has been built. These creatures love pain as a form of pleasure, and happily strap themselves into the devices to experience said pain. Mistress’s (or Dark Mistresses’s if you prefer) are very useful and practically fearless in battle, and if they are trained well enough, can also shoot out bolts of lightning across the battlefield!v

4. Troll  – Trolls are amongst the smaller creatures in the game, as well as possibly the most useful. Trolls work in the dungeon Workshop, building doors and traps to defend the dungeon. They are not the only creatures who can work in the workshop (Bile Demon), but are by far the most pro-active, and productive, where as the others are usually stuffing their faces with live chickens!

3. Salamander – The Salamander can be seen as a pretty weak creature compared to some of the game’s later creatures, but their design is so simple, and rather cute, it’s hard to say no to them. Salamander’s work really hard when it comes to training, and are never far from a Training Room. They will also wade happily through lava, and are frequently the most likely creature to initiate the Jackpot Winner song in the Casino!

2. Skeleton – Much like the Trolls above, Skeletons are one of the most useful creatures in the game. Skeletons may not be tough as nails, but they certainly act like they are. They require no sleep, no food, and no cash. They just work hard to be the best warriors they can be, and will happily charge into battle, no matter how large the opposing force is!

1. Black Knight – Much like the Black Knight‘s famed in medieval history, The Black Knight is a fearsome warrior, who does not rely on spells, but ruthless agression to win the day. They look fantastic, and are an opposing sight, not just on the battlefield, but anywhere they go. It’s this simplicity that makes them my number 1 favourite (from DK2 at least)!
