Top 5 Films I Am Looking Forward To In 2026

Another year is ending, and soon another one will be beginning. Yes, you’re not dreaming, it’s that time of year. Time to reflect on the past, and time to consider the future! And I spend this time of year considering which movies I have enjoyed the most this year, and for the sake of this post, consider which films I would like to see most next year.

For once I’m sort of on the back-foot, and haven’t really looked into what is coming out in 2026. There’s been one or two that have caught my interest, where as some (like the title picture to this post) were meant to be released in 2025. I am though strangely more looking forward to films I wouldn’t have considered, but would still likely see. And in the interest of padding out this post a little, discovered a few more for the first time which have also perked up my interest. By and large, it looks like it’s going to be an interesting year…movie wise.

But as this is a Top 5, there’s some which I am still genuinley interested in but not in my Top 5, so I will give them a quick mention here:

Deep Water, Mortal Kombat II, Supergirl, The Odyssey, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, and Werwulf.

So, without further ado, here are the Top 5 Films I Am Most Looking Forward To In 2026; Enjoy!

IMDb

5. Avengers: Doomsday – Normally I wouldn’t be excited enough to put a Marvel film in my Top 5 of films I am looking forward to (unless it was Blade or a new X-Men film, come on Marvel; get your act together), but the recent slate of MCU movies, have been pretty good, with films like Shang-Chi and Thunderbolts* coming to mind in particular. And it’s also no secret who has been cast as Doctor Doom, so there’s reason to my madness in looking forward to Doomsday!

IMDb

4. Jumanji 3 (or 4, depending on if you include the 1995 film?) – The recent string of Jumanji films have been excellant to say the least. Very imaginitive, and very, very funny. Featuring a terrific cast of both lead characters, and sub-lead characters (like the human forms of the main characters). Currently don’t know what to expect with this new one, but if the previous two are anything to go by, then it should be hillarious!

IMDb

3. Greenland 2: MigrationGreenland is without a doubt, one of the best Disaster movies in recent years, if not the best this century so far. It was an interesting film, featuring drama, action, explosive scenes, whilst also covering intricate details, more classic disaster movies chose to sweep under the rug. From my understanding, this new film takes place after the events of the first Greenland, so is less about avoiding the incoming giant meteor, and more towards moving on from it!

IMDb

2. Kraken – Not to be confused with the 2025 Russian film of the same name, or the book of the same name by China Miéville; Kraken is an upcoming Norwegian film, featuring the mythical sea monster, hiding in a fjord (I wonder if Slartibartfast put it there?). Not much to go on right now other than the trailer, but the name and premise alone is enough to perk up my interest!

IMDb

1. Godzilla Minus Zero – What else was my number one going to be? Rumoured for release next year is the sequel to the best movie so far this decade (which stupidly wasn’t nominated at either the Bafta‘s, or the Academy Awards for either Best Picture/Film, or Best Director). I always had a hunch that the sequel was going to be called Godzilla Zero, so I wasn’t too far off. Not much is known about the film’s content, but given the fact that Takashi Yamazaki is returning to direct this new one, is already good enough for me!

Which films are you most looking forward to seeing next year?
