Yesterday I watched Troll 2; and it was really good! Directed by Roar Uthaug, and starring Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim Falck, Sara Khorami, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen; Troll 2 is a Norwegian Monster Movie, and sequel to the 2022 film Troll. Set three years after the previous film, Nora Tidemann (Wilmann) is living in a remote cabin after resigning from a government position, but then Andreas Isaksen (Falck) arrives, and asks for her help with a new discovery! The first Troll film was absolutely fantastic. It was a modern monster movie, which told an epic story, but chose not to follow the path of science fiction, but rather fantasy and folklore, but in modern times. Troll 2 is no different in that respect, as it weaves a story based on ancient folklore, leading the protagonists on an adventure in the realms of an investigative thriller, as they try to understand the behaviour of the new Troll, and how they can counteract the new threat. Troll 2features the return of several cast members from the first, plus a few new ones, which of course includes some new questionable government officials, who once again sadly don’t get their justifiably well deserved comeuppance (maybe next time?). There’s also a second Troll in this film, so be prepared for some cool Troll on Troll fight sequences. Altogether it was a really pleasurable experience, which tried (and succeeded) to add more to the expanding universe, whilst also choosing not to just copy the first film, and create another awesome monster movie, by it’s own credit (although the ending is much like the first, very tragic)!
