Today I had quite an extraordinary trip into town. Initially it went rather well, but by the end, felt a bit odd! Recently I bought a brand new Bass Guitar. As it is the third Guitar I owned, and wanted to commit it to it more than the others; I decided to try and sell-on one of the other two, and hopefully get something for it, rather than just chuck it into the bin. I also for many months now, have owned a Nintendo Switch 2, and so decided that today I would take my old Switch into town, and try and sell that on too.
Before I took them into town, I gave them both a quick dusting. I then travelled into town, parked the car, and set off for the appropriate shops. Originally I was going to try and sell the Guitar to Cash Converters, but as there was a Cash-in-a-Dash right next to the car park, I went in there first. They gave it a look over, and offered me £70 for it. I was absolutely fine with that, so gave them the Guitar, and received me money. I then went to my bank, to deposit my new funds.
I then went to CEX to trade in my old Switch. There were some concerns given that the original box had a picture of red and blue Joycon attachments, where as mine had purple and yellow (largely due to the Stick Drift issue, and not wanting to constantly send them off repairs, so bought new ones, and fancied a different colour). But anyway they made me an offer of £57, and put the console in for a test, saying it would take an hour. I used this as an opportunity to get my breakfast, so popped in to The Cornish Bakery for a lovely breakfast, before picking up a graphic novelization of The Lord of the Flies from Waterstones.
I then went back to CEX, where the Switch had passed it’s test, and I received £60 from the shop (I assume the extra £3 was from the additional storage card in the machine). I then took this money to my bank, which was still open, to deposit that into it. I then went to buy a drink, before heading back to the car.
I sat in the car briefly to enjoy my drink, before setting off home. It was at this point that I discovered that the car wouldn’t start! I tried several times. The electrics came on, but the engine wouldn’t. So I called my Mam, and after some research and a couple of phone calls, she booked me a slot for Green Flag to come and rescue me, although it could be nearly two hours for them to arrive.
Meanwhile the car was still stuck in the car park, and not wanting to receive an additional fine for staying too long, I extended my session. It was also a very hot day, and I was pretty thirsty, but not wanting to leave the car park, I had to find another way to get a drink. Forgetting that there was a takeaway place less than a 30 second walk from where I was parked, I ordered a drink from Greggs on Just Eat, which cost about £7. Meanwhile I passed the time watching comedy shows on my phone.
Eventually Macadams showed up to look at my car. In the end it turned out the battery was passed it’s sell by date, so switched it for a new one for about £87. The car now working, I was able to finally go home. I told my Mam and Dad about my day out, my successes, and struggles, and worked out that when you combine the amount of money I made from my Guitar and Switch, with what I spent from Breakfast, Car Parking, New Battery, and so on, I have probably broken even for today’s activities, which is pretty good, but does bring a downer on my early successes.
Oh well, still makes an interesting story.
