Mini Book Review – Animorphs: The Invasion

Recently I have been reading Animorphs: The Invasion; and it was pretty interesting! Written by K. A. Applegate, and published by Scholastic; Animorphs: The Invasion is the first book in the Animorphs series, and follows the lives of a group of kids, who have been given the ability to morph into animals, to try and prevent an Alien Invasion! I remember these books growing up, due to their distinctive covers, and I also remember watching the TV adaptation starring X-Men star Shawn Ashmore. I have had an interest in reading them, so when I discovered they were being re-released this year, I went and ordered the first three. My memories of the TV series are faint, but I can remember details, but the books do provide more content than the series, as it includes two additional alien species. For a kids book, there is a surprising level of drama too, as you have a group of kids, debating using these gifts, which creates verbal fighting between them. In addition to that, there is a great level of detail, particularly towards the end, as the kids discover the Yeerk pool, and mention it’s size. It was really interesting to jump into a nice short, easy going story, which still provided plenty of information setting up the world, as well as delivering plenty of visuals, and action too.
