Mini Film Review – Bohemian Rhapsody

Over the last 24 Hours I have watched Bohemian Rhapsody; and I rather enjoyed it. Starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody is a biopic about the life and career of the Queen frontman. The film is laced with Queen memorabilia as the film tells the story, origins and recordings of the band’s most notable pieces, and how this achieved them a global fan base and recognition for their work. The music itself has the feel and energy of these original recordings plus their live sessions, making you want to drum your hands, feet and other objects in time with the beat. These sections in particular almost brought a tear to my eye. The film for the most part though is the story of a larger than life character and how he goes through a world not necessarily designed to have him in it. This story creates an image of a man who rises through fame and fortune only then for it to come crashing down as he becomes a rather deplorable person to be around, followed on by his successful redemption in the eyes of those around him. It really is a striking film, a really enjoyable film as the combination of story and classic music creates an incredible picture.

Watching this has made me want to re-watch/re-listen to the James Hetfield recording of Stone Cold Crazy.
