Mini Film Review – The Thing

I have just watched (over the course of 24 hours) The Thing; and it was pretty good! Directed by John Carpenter, and starring Kurt Russell, Keith David, and Wilford Brimley; The Thing is a science fiction horror film based on the book Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr. The film follows a group of American researchers in Antarctica; who encounter an alien parasite that can assimilate other organisms! In a case of curiosity getting the better of me (again), I became curious into watching a film I wouldn’t normally watch. I do like the ideas and writing of horror films, but I do not necessarily like grotesque horror films, and I do usually try hard not to watch them. But Curiosity got the best of me. But, It was a pretty good film. The horror element isn’t really in the disgusting (and well designed) creatures though, but in the human element, and the feelings of distrust between the characters, as they each accuse one another of being The Thing. The grotesque elements are not all that bad either. The first few cases are horrific and scary, but as the film goes on; you do get pretty much used to them. So, altogether it was a pretty gripping and grotesque feature, but one well worth sitting through!
