Yesterday I watched A Quiet Place Part II; and it was pretty good! Directed by John Krasinski, and starring Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Cillian Murphy; A Quiet Place Part II is a post-apocalyptic horror film, and sequel to A Quiet Place. Following on straight after the events of the first film, this time the surviving members of the family leave the farm, running into an old friend, and set out on a mission to broadcast the signal that can defeat the monsters. Now that the world seems a little safer, we now see what’s happened to the rest of the world. Now whilst this briefly does go down the predictable route of society breaking down, it also shows how others have survived, and even begun to move on. And whilst there is a lot more verbal speaking than in the previous film, quite a bit early on is hard to understand, as it comes out as hushed mumbling, and you just wish the cast could speak more clearly. But other than the odd niggle, it’s just as tense and suspenseful as the first, whilst still creating real drama between characters, and further developing them too, in particular Millicent Simmonds, who is easily becoming the series shining light. Plus, it finally starts to (but only just) actually explain where the creatures came from in the first place!
