Mini Film Review – Hunt

Yesterday I watched Hunt; and it was really good! Directed by Lee Jung-jae, and starring Lee Jung-jae, Jung Woo-sung, Hye-jin Jeon, and Go Yoon-Jung; Hunt is a South Korean espionage action thriller, inspired by the Gwangju Uprising in 1980, the Defection of North Korean Pilot Captain Lee Ung-pyong in 1983, and the 1983 Rangoon Bombing! Fearing a possible invasion; two chief agents within the South Korean Spy Agency, start investigating each other, looking for a North Korean spy by the name of Donglim! Hunt is a rather intense film from start to finish. The tension begins in a very dramatic way, and grows consistently in intensity with every breath, as two agents who should be on the same side, grow ever more suspicious of each other. But it’s rather clever in it’s creation and development of it’s two leads, in that one is soon revealed as actually a bad guy, and you wait for him to be found out, and during this time grow to trust in the lead hero. That is until the film throws in the most devious of twists, which turns the film on it’s head, as you don’t know who to trust! This then keeps flipping the coin over and over again, as the baddies become heroes, whilst still remaining baddies. This in turns leads into a dramatic and explosive action packed battle, which is already oozing in intensity, so as it continues, just gets more dramatic, leading to what feels like an anti-climax…but is actually a way of wrapping up, this fierce, action thriller, packed to the gills with political intrigue, and a very devious amount of distrust!
