Mini Film Review – Jurassic World: Rebirth

Yesterday I went to see Jurassic World: Rebirth; and it was better than I thought it was going to be! Directed by Gareth Edwards, and starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali; Jurassic World: Rebirth is a standalone sequel in the Jurassic Park film series, with the story this time involving a scientific mission to a mysterious island, to gain DNA from three large dinosaur species. I was genuinley concerned that this film was just going to be like Jurassic Park III; a film whose story solely involves a group of people landing on a dino infested island, and then just spend the time running away from dinosaurs. Well, I can gladly say that this film, is better than Jurassic Park 3 (and possibly even Dominion too). Yes, there is quite a bit of being chased by dinosaurs in this film, but there’s other bits in between. The action/chases scenes are intense and gripping, and truly never disappoint. The story focuses on two seperate groups of people too, although I did find that the story involving the tourist family so much more interesting than the scientific expedition. Plus, the film does have some great moments of spectacle, much like the original film, and the dinosaurs as always look superb. But it’s not all good though. The ending is ridiculously long, and partialy borring! The film begins with an interesting and intense flashback scene, but doesn’t go anywhere with it! Then the ending introduces an absolute monster, which doesn’t really do anything! It doesn’t even have a name (or at least not one provided in the film). It just shows up for about 5 minutes, and then wanders off. There could have been a cool fight between it and another dinosaur, but sadly there wasn’t. So, it’s not the best Jurassic Park/World film, but it’s still a decently enjoyable one!
