Mini Book Review – The Demon Headmaster Strikes Again

Recently I have been reading The Demon Headmaster Strikes Again; and it was brilliant! Written by Gillian Cross, and published by Oxford University Press; The Demon Headmaster Strikes Again is a children’s horror fantasy book, and the fourth entry in the Demon Headmaster book series. The story follows Dinah and her brothers, as they move to a small village, after their father receives a new job at the Biogenetic Research Centre; weird things are happening in the local area however, from the way the locals act, to the strange buzzing sound, to the creeper, which grows at an exceptional rate! I remember watching the TV adaptation of this entry back when I was young, and I can remember it being truly terrifying, especially the final episode. Reading this book brought back visual memories of the adaptation. The book itself is very well written, as each chapter is easy to read, but detailed enough to fully understand what is going on, without coming across as borring. It builds both intrigue and intensity with ease, especially when alliances start breaking down. It was a brilliant and fun read which brought up terrifying imagery from my TV watching youth, while at the same time making me want to turn each page with eager excitement, and never stop!

  1. Oh man, the guy who played him in the TV series was spooky as hell! Haven’t thought about that show in a good many years. The eyes!
