I have just been out to see Supergirl; and it was pretty good! Directed by Craig Gillespie, and starring Milly Alcock, Eve Ridley, and Jason Momoa, and based on the DC Comics character of the same name; Supergirl is a superhero film, which sees the title hero go on an intergalactic journey with an unlikely ally, to find an antidote to save Krypto‘s life! This is the first real interaction I have ever had with anything Supergirl related, so I didn’t really know what to expect. The character of Supergirl is pretty cool, in how she comes across more like an anti-hero (saving lives just because she happens to be in the area, and for the fun of it), rather than specifically setting out to save the universe. The addition of the more down to earth Ruthye Marye Knoll was a really good idea, as her story is more focussed, and becomes one of the key driving forces behind both the plot, and some of the more weighty emotional scenes later on in the film. Plus Krypto was always fun, in a very adorable way. The film does though have pacing issues, as it constantly beats around the bush, particularly during the final act, like it’s desperate to keep the show going on, which is annoying given how rather borring the lead villain Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts) is! In addition to that; Momoa’s character (Lobo) is so cool and awesome, you really wish there was more of him to see, rather than a few fleeting glimpses. But despite the pacing issues, and a dull villain, it was a very enjoyable, and captivating experience, which was near seemlessly able to be both a superhero action move, as well as a decently deep emotional journey!
