I have just watched What We Do In The Shadows; and it was really, really funny! Taking the form of a documentary, What We Do in The Shadows follows the lives of Vampire‘s Vladislav (Jemaine Clement), Deacon (Jonny Brugh), and Viago (Taika Waititi) in the months building up to a social gathering of other undead people’s in Wellington New Zealand. The group constantly followed by a camera crew show how they live their lives at a time when the social dynamics of the group go through some changes due to the turning of new vampire Nick (Cori Gonzalez-Macuer), and his human friend Stu (Stu Rutherford) whom the other vampires prefer to Nick. The film’s plot at times can get lost in the details, however it is the sheer laugh a minute amount of comedy where this film shines! It takes the classic ideas and stereotype behaviors of Vampires, and just plasters them all over the screen. From the inclusion of modern day familiar’s like Jackie (Jackie van Beek), to the troubles of finding it hard to dress to go out due to a lack of reflection. Added onto this are the generic but still very funny inclusion of flat share comedy basics, to Vampires learning how to use a mobile phone for the first time. The cast’s performance is terrific, the comedy is stereotypical, but hilarious. It’s daft, silly and above all Very, Very Funny!
