I have just watched Blade II; and it was alright! Directed by Guillermo del Toro, and starring Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, and Leonor Varela; Blade II is a superhero horror film based on the Marvel Comics character Blade. This time around; Vampire hunter Blade, is hired by a group of vampires to stop a rogue strain! The setup to the film is interesting, but it does skimp on some of the details to really understand what is going on. While many of these elements are cleared up as the film reaches it’s climax, it still feels like a little more help would be appreciated in why we should care more about the film’s premise. The fight sequences at the end of the film are more like the superb fights in the first Blade, but as the film is filled to the brim with fights, it does feel like a waste that they weren’t all equal in quality. The final fight at the end also feels unnecessary, as that too feels like it could have been kept for a sequel or follow-up, or maybe not have one at all and allow the two characters the option of partnering up. The film has it’s issues, but almost makes up for them in other areas. The plot twist is predictable, but still dramatically juicy, with a turn that you don’t see coming. The film’s cast are an odd mix of recognizable talent, which includes: Ron Perlman, Norman Reedus, Danny John-Jules, and Donnie Yen. And the up-close horror elements are superbly grotesque giving you plenty of jumps and frights along the entire ride!
