Yesterday I watched Greenland; and it was really good! Directed by Ric Roman Waugh, and starring Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roger Dale Floyd; Greenland is a disaster movie about a family trying evading an oncoming comet, by trying to reach the only safe place they can; Greenland. The set-up is quiet as it tells the story of a relationship in crisis, but things turn to a battle of survival as the comet makes it’s way. The film has an array of cool imagery and special effects, as it shows a world on the brink of disaster. Cool images appear early on like a fleet like presence of planes in the sky. The film though works hard to create scenes of apocalyptic terror, even in the smallest of scenarios as civilization breaks down, and how humanity resorts to horrendous and extreme measures in order to survive. There are several predictable moments of drama, but also a lot of heart, with rare but sweet surprises that you don’t see coming. It’s dramatic, tense, and very scary!
