Mini Film Review – London Has Fallen

Yesterday I watched London Has Fallen; and it was pretty good! Directed by Babak Najafi, and starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, and Morgan Freeman; London Has Fallen follows on from Olympus Has Fallen, with the city of London now in the frame for a large scale terrorist attack! London Has Fallen, features many of the cool, top notch special effects of the previous entry, whilst also delivering on the fast paced and often brutal fight and battle sequences. The film is at a shorter length than the first one, and this hinders some of the plot development considerably. Whilst we do get to see more sights of the capital compared to Washington D.C., we see less character development, which feels unfair to the film’s more interesting introductions such as Charlotte Riley, and Bryan Larkin. It is nice to see some recognizable British talent such as Colin Salmon; but these characters don’t get enough time to really be included, and you just hope they get more of an inclusion in a follow-up. Also, many of the battle sequences are rather obscured thanks to the choice of setting them up in the dark; and that whole mole in their midst plot just gets left to the end, wrapped up as quickly as possible, which just makes it all seem rather pointless. Despite these issues though; it was a fun action film. More of a chase film than all in one location, but it does heighten the tension dramatically. Also, I didn’t know that there were so many Saab‘s in London!
