Mini Film Review – Weathering With You

Yesterday I watched Weathering with You; and it was so magically beautiful! Directed by Makoto Shinkai, and starring Kotaro Daigo, Nana Mori, and Tsubasa Honda; Weathering with You is a romantic fantasy anime film about a teenage runaway, who falls in love with a girl with an amazing gift; to bring the sunshine! Back in 2016, Makoto Shinkai gave the world one of the standout animated movies of all time in the incredible Your Name. A film which was able to create an intriguing and captivating mix of science fiction and teen romance. So, with Weathering with You he decided to try and do something similar, but more on Fantasy than Science Fiction; and once again he has achieved it! It was like watching Akira for the first time again. It was like looking into an alternate vision of reality, packed with all this wonderful magic, in a beautifully animated world. Even the smallest and almost meaninglessly little things, were so beautifully created and animated, that they looked like they were shot in live action! And though while it was definitely not a musical, the soundtrack took me back to watching and hearing Belle a few months ago. It was all so delightfully lovely and pleasantly alluring! The film’s story was well thought out, creating great characters, and building up this amazing picture of love and harmony in a world which was trying so hard to prevent it. You care greatly for these characters and don’t want to let them go, even after the film reaches it’s ultimate conclusion. It’s such an amazing film. It has Action, Drama, Beauty, Magic, Tension, Love; it would probably be quicker to list the things it doesn’t have. It’s just so magically beautiful!
