Mini Film Review – Sicario

Yesterday I watched Sicario; and it was depressingly grim! Directed by Denis Villeneuve, and starring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluuya, and Benicio Del Toro, Sicario is an action thriller about an FBI agent, who after joining a government task force to bring down a Mexican drug cartel; discovers the dark and brutal side of the force! Sicario starts out rather interesting, as due to the lack of early clarity, you have no idea as to what is going on, and you wonder if the film was made just to show the more boring every day activities of the police. But as things close in on the film’s climax, you discover the deep and dark motivations; of a group of police officers, who believe that the ends always justify the means; leading into this horrendously and depressingly grim story with no possible happy ending in sight! It has great action scenes early on, and uses incredibly believable ways to show you how police swat teams work in the field. Plus the characters are really well done too, with Emily Blunt being this by the book character you can easily care for, whilst Brolin and Del Toro go much deeper, creating these horrific characters; who are apparently the good guys?! Yes, it’s a very interesting film, but one that’s also incredibly grim!
