Yesterday I watched A Quiet Place; and it was really good (and chilling)! Directed by John Krasinski, and starring Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, and John Krasinski; A Quiet Place is a post-apocalyptic horror film about a family trying to survive in a world where creatures hunt by sound! A Quiet Place is a really simple idea, but takes its concept, and makes it as big as possible for a small horror film. The idea that even the smallest, and simplest sound can attract horrific creatures that are seemingly unstoppable, is a cool idea; and to make it work at its best possible level, the film creates a world seemingly only inhabited by this family and a few stragglers. No cars, no gadgets, not even a small crowd of people; it’s a world which takes away basic luxuries, and amplifies the dangers of screaming in agony, to a pin dropping! But it’s not just that, as the film creates some real dramatic tension in a close-nit family seemingly tearing apart at the seams. But for its many positives, it does have a couple of niggles. Mainly in the way in how it takes quite a bit of time to get to the science of the creatures, which could come a little sooner; but also, it feels like a shame that the story didn’t highlight where the creatures came from in the first place. But other than that; it’s a pretty solid shock-fest, with plenty of jumps and frights, as well as a simple but effective story to hold it all together!
