Mini Film Review – Glass Onion

Yesterday I watched Glass Onion; and it was pretty good! Directed by Rian Johnson, and starring Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, and Janelle Monáe; Glass Onion is a mystery film, and a standalone sequel to Knives Out. The film follows a group of seemingly close friends who are invited to the island of a wealthy billionaire, but something just doesn’t seem right. Personally I am still a little bit irked that this wasn’t released at the cinema (at least not in the UK), but that’s all water under the bridge…for now. Anyway; Glass Onion comes across as a bit weird, as given that it’s a sequel, you are convinced that this story is going to involve a murder; but it does take quite a while for anything of that category, to actually happen. For the most part, the first act does not setup anything, other than to make the film look like a comedy caper vehicle for Daniel Craig. But then the whole thing turns on itself, when it introduces a Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai style flashback, which then unravels the picture, highlighting what the film was really all about, and all leading to a satisfactory reveal. But then again, it turns itself on it’s head, leading to what could be a very sad ending, only for it to then do something far more satisfactory, in a rather fun looking Carrie style conclusion!
