Mini Film Review – Spinal Tap II: The End Continues

Yesterday I watched Spinal Tap II: The End Continues; and it was rather relaxing! Directed by Rob Reiner, and starring Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer; Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is a mockumentary comedy film, and sequel to This Is Spinal Tap. Set around 40 years after the previous film, this film explores the lives of Spinal Tap members David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls; after splitting up, before then reuniting them for a reunion/final show. It was very interesting to see the chosen direction the producers took, for how each member, and supporters from the previous film have moved on, and now live. It introduces new characters too, with the need for a new drummer (which isn’t easy given the tragic results of all previous Spinal Tap drummers), and a new manager (Kerry Godliman). There’s also a new casual villain, some drama between the band, and of course, some good old failing stage equipment (plus some guest stars). The film was pretty funny at times, but are more along the lines of light giggles, rather than frequent LOL moments. It was also very relaxing, as due to it’s documentary style, you don’t think that you are watching a film, but more something to relax to after a hard day at work. The ending is a bit anti-climactic, but hillariously comical in it’s approach!
