Mini TV Review – Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters (Season 1)

Recently I have been watching Monarch: Legacy of Monsters; and it was rather Awesome! Created by Chris Black, and Matt Fraction, and starring Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, and Ren Watabe; Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a giant monster TV series, set within Legendary Entertainment‘s Monsterverse. Set one year after the events of G-Day, survivor Cate Randa (Sawai) heads to Tokyo, to discover she has a half brother (Watabe), but this moment is rather minor, as they both discover their father’s connection to Monarch, a secret organization, that tracks giant monsters! It has taken me quite a bit of time to finally watch this show, as at the time of it’s release, I didn’t have an Apple TV subscription. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a really interesting show, which starts off strongly with it’s surprise reveal, whilst also exploring things never before covered within the realm of the Godzilla series. But it’s not a Godzilla fest, as his appearances are rather scattered, with the show choosing to create other monsters between appearances from the Big G, whilst also investing in the show’s core human characters. There’s also quite a bit of time travel too, as the story jumps from seperate time periods, which is helped rather nicely by Wyatt Russell playing a yonger version of his father Kurt Russell. The Episodes are so full of detail, drama and action, that it’s like watching several small movies, instead of a TV series, which also leaves you in bewonderment, as it’s hard to believe by the season’s end, that the show started off so small, with a story involving a brother and sister, meeting for the first time. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was an epic experience, and I can’t wait to start watching season 2!
