This weekend; I (finally) watched (all of) World War Z; and it was pretty good! Directed by Marc Forster, starring Brad Pitt, and based on the book of the same name by Max Brooks; World War Z tells the story of a world wide outbreak of a virus that turns people into zombie-esque creatures. The film features some good secondary casting, shining a light on characters played by Daniella Kertesz and Peter Capaldi among others. The action and scenes of panic stricken streets and cities are terrific and adrenaline pumping for all the right reasons. Interlaced are scenes which include the politics of how the situation is managed, plus some good moments of scientific understanding, just to ensure that this film is not entirely choppy smashy. The outbreaks though do feel a bit overkill; it’s like they happen within five minutes of each other, meaning there isn’t any room for any sudden shocks or surprises as you begin to predict when they are going to happen. Despite this though, World War Z is a fun action fuelled thriller, providing something for everyone; and then doubling on that!
