10 Awesome Films From The Last Decade

The 2010’s were a great decade for movies. Audiences were treated to a great multitude of movies, many of which have become simply great movies in their own right, and icons of their time. To commemorate this, I have chosen 10 Awesome films from the last decade (as the title implies) to share with you.

Now, unlike a normal list where I would rank something from five to one, this isn’t one of those lists. This list is simply a representation of a collection of Awesome movies; 10 doesn’t mean anything, nor does 1; all these films on this list are amazing no matter where they feature on it (this also means I can do another list of movies down the line without having to worry about additional ranking). So with all the paperwork out of the way, here are some Amazing Movies that were released last decade; Enjoy!

10. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – One of the decades most consistently enjoyable movies. Starring Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, David Fincher‘s take on Stieg Larsson‘s book is scary, terrifyingly realistic, and really sets out to traumatize it’s audience with horrific visions of the cruelty of humanity. But it’s not all that though, as the film creates a great whodunit mystery, whilst showing the continuing relationship between the film’s two lead stars, creating great moments from scene to scene, and creating a film that you will not forget in a hurry, in more ways than ten!

9. Power Rangers – It may have got mediocre reviews, but I seriously enjoyed this movie. I was able to sit back and relax as I watched. The story was pretty good, the character development was excellent, and it really featured some moments for classic fans of Power Rangers to enjoy. Best of all though was the performance from Naomi Scott who was just excellent from start to finish. Seriously; give it a Go, Go…Power Ranger (I know)!

8. 10 Cloverfield Lane – To this day I am still hoping and wishing for a direct sequel to Cloverfield, but at least we got this in the meantime. Starring John Goodman and Mary Elizabeth Winstead; 10 Cloverfield Lane takes place in an underground fallout shelter, as a trio of survivors try to make a life out of the situation, but one of them has doubts as to exactly where the real monsters lay. A rather fun but still terrifying psychological thriller that has some great scenes of family life, as well as some realistically haunting moments of dread.

7. Skyfall – Daniel Craig’s tenure as James Bond up to this point had been rather hit and miss, but then came Skyfall, which blew everyone away. Acting as the 50th Anniversary to the whole series; Skyfall came packed with great acting talent from Javier Bardem, to series regular Judi Dench, as it told a story too big to contain. It featured family drama, politics, and of course action.

6. Rogue One – I was pretty much ready to thrown in the towel with Star Wars after The ‘Farce’ Awakens, but Rogue One was pretty good. It wasn’t a colossal remake of the original film, nor a massive waste of time. It was fresh and new with some classic Star Wars tweaks, featuring a big and very enjoyable final battle, but also bolstered with some great acting talent from Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang and Guy Henry. While the past decade for Star Wars films is rather questionable, but at least one classic was released!

5. Inception – It feels like this one has become rather forgotten from the last decade, but that could be due to how early in the decade it was released; but that doesn’t detract anything away from it’s pure quality. Hot off the heels from The Dark Knight; Christopher Nolan produced this incredible film that became the one to watch in 2010. Taking us deep into the complex world of dream creation, and presenting an idea as to how people could be deeply manipulated from within. Inception was very complex but also very detailed, creating a lot to take in but not too much to be overwhelmed by!

4. Blackfish – A haunting docu-film showcasing the history of captive Orcas, and the incidents that have followed. The main subject of the film is a whale called Tilikum, who over his career as a performing whale has been involved in the deaths of three people, one of them being a trainer at SeaWorld! The film makes a strong argument against keeping whales in captivity, and what captivity has done to them.

3. The Raid – Apart from perhaps this film’s own sequel, The Raid is quite possibly the best action film ever produced. Directed by Gareth Evans and starring Iko Uwais; The Raid follows a group of cops battling their way up a block of flats owned by one of Jakarta‘s top crime lords. Featuring a great story about a cop trying to fight his way out to see his family, and utilizing the martial art of Pencak Silat; The Raid is a must see for all fans of cinema. 

2. Colossal – Anyone who knows me and reads my blog regularly knows that I love Giant Monster Movies; so in some regards this film may look pretty obvious to be on this list; but it isn’t a Monster Movie! Colossal is actually a black romantic comedy, as Anne Hathaway moves back home after a failed relationship; at the same time however, a Monster is running amok in Seoul. The film highlights the effects of bad relationships and raises the bar on how damaging they can be to the wider population. The effects are terrific, but all the way through, it continues to remain grounded as a human story.

1. The Hunger Games – One of the most iconic films of the past decade, could already be considered a Legend by many. The Hunger Games had a story which sounded controversial, (and possibly copied), but it followed through with a really engrossing story and a breakout performance by Jennifer Lawrence. When I went to see the film I wasn’t expecting much, but then I came out absolutely loving it and thinking of nothing else for the next month. To this day it remains an incredible film, and one of the major all-star releases of the last decade!
