I have just watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009); and it was pretty good! Directed by Niels Arden Oplev, and starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Nyqvist, and Sven-Bertil Taube, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a Swedish crime thriller based on the novel of the same name by Stieg Larsson. For me it was something of a strange experience as I have watched the David Fincher adaptation of the book a lot, and so I sort of knew how this film was going to work out, but that’s really where the similarities ended! I didn’t know that this film was actually split into two separate films; each one acting more like an episode in a crime series than two separate films; I enjoyed the second one more though than the first one. Whilst I sort of knew what was going to happen, in this instance there are a lot of differences. If you watch both adaptations you will probably see the subtleties, but that’s sort of what makes both films unique and pretty good at the same time. You still see the horrific moments of the film, but the crime element of this version was more in depth and plugged up a few more holes in the detail. It’s these little extra touches which makes neither film a carbon copy of one another, but their own independent stories. But at least with this version, I might get to see what happens next!
