Mini Book Review – The Darkest Unicorn

Last night I finished reading The Darkest Unicorn; and it was ok! Written by Alice Hemming and published by Scholastic; The Darkest Unicorn is a fantasy story about a young girl who travels with a mysterious stranger to meet a Unicorn who can grant wishes, for a hefty price! The opening chapters really help to setup the book, and wastes no time in introducing the Unicorn. But then despite that the character is in the title of the book, it disappears for more than half the book following this; and these sections can be a bit dim. It is worth hanging around though, as when the story returns to the castle, it really picks up and the last few chapters can be really enjoyable and worth the wait.
